What Is Ladle Refining Furnace?

The ladle refining furnace belongs to secondary refining equipment, and is usually used in the process after the primary refining furnace.

Its main function is to desulfurize molten steel melted in electric arc furnaces, intermediate frequency furnaces and other primary smelting furnaces, remove impurities, adjust the alloy composition ratio in molten steel, and make the alloy composition in molten steel more accurate.

Ladle refining furnaces is mainly used for smelting high-quality carbon steel, stainless steel, manganese steel and other metals. It is an important metallurgical equipment for smelting primary furnace (electric arc furnace, open hearth furnace, converter) for refining molten steel, adjusting molten steel temperature, buffering process, and meeting the requirements of continuous casting and rolling.

1. Make the molten steel heat up and have the function of heat preservation:

Arc heating can obtain new heat energy from molten steel, which can not only replenish alloy and adjust composition during ladle refining, but also supplement slag to promote deep desulfurization and deoxidation of molten steel. 

Moreover, the molten steel casting temperature required for continuous casting can be guaranteed, which is beneficial to improving the quality of dry casting slabs.

2. Argon stirring function:

The argon gas is blown into the molten steel through the breathable brick installed at the bottom of the ladle, and the molten steel obtains a certain stirring effect.

3. Vacuum degassing function:

The ladle in the vacuum tank is vacuum degassed with a steam jet pump, and the molten steel in the ladle is stirred by the action of argon gas at the bottom. Excellent molten steel.
