Submerged Arc Furnaces Categories & Characteristics

Submerged Arc Furnaces, SAF

The submerged arc furnace is an industrial electric furnace that consumes a lot of power. What are the main categories, characteristics and uses of submerged arc furnaces? HANI takes you to understand together.

SAF is mainly composed of furnace shell, furnace cover, furnace lining, short net, water cooling system, smoke exhaust system, dust removal system, electrode shell, electrode pressing and lifting system, loading and unloading system, gripper, burner, hydraulic system, mineral heat Furnace transformer and various electrical equipment.

Categories of Submerged Arc Furnaces

SAF is used for the reduction smelting of metal oxide ores, so it is also called submerged heat reduction electric furnace.

Submerged arc furnaces are called ferroalloy furnaces when they are used to produce ferroalloys;

Used to produce calcium carbide is called calcium carbide furnace;

When it is used to produce yellow phosphorus, it is called yellow phosphorus furnace;

It is called a matte furnace when it is used to produce matte;

When used for ferroalloy refining, it is called submerged heat refining furnace;

When it is used to melt the pre-reduction charge and separate the metal from the slag, it is called a melting furnace.

Among these categories, what HANI provides most to customers all over the world are ferroalloy furnaces, calcium carbide furnaces, submerged thermal refining furnaces and smelting furnaces.

Features

1. The submerged arc furnace is also an electric furnace that consumes a lot of power.

The electrical equipment of the SAF is similar to that of the electric arc furnace, but the submerged arc furnace is a resistance electric arc furnace.

2. The finished products of submerged arc furnaces are gaseous (phosphorus, zinc, etc.)

Most of the SAF whose finished products are in gaseous and liquid states are continuous or semi-continuous.

Its rotating device can make the furnace body rotate around the central axis or swing left and right by 60°~120°. The rotation speed is generally 360° every 30~240h, and some large electric furnaces use 360° every 200~600h.

Refractories For Submerged Arc Furnaces

For submerged arc furnaces, refractory masonry is also lining masonry.

Since the molten pool of submerged arc furnace not only bears strong high temperature, but also is eroded and mechanically scoured by charge, high temperature furnace gas, molten iron and high temperature slag, specific refractory materials must be selected.

Requirements for refractory materials: high refractoriness, great change in shape and volume at high temperature, high temperature strength, good slag resistance, good chemical stability at high temperature, all kinds of refractory materials should keep the appearance clean and the structure intact , There is no defect in the corner flute, and there is no crack on the surface. In the masonry of the submerged arc furnace, the refractory material for the submerged arc furnaces mainly adopts refractory bricks, supplemented by refractory castables.

The above is HANI's sharing of the submerged arc furnaces categories & characteristics. If you want to know more about submerged arc furnaces, induction furnaces, electric arc furnaces, ladle furnaces and other industrial electric furnace knowledge, or needs, please feel free to contact us.
