SAF & Submerged Arc Process
Submerged arc furnace is a kind of equipment used to reduce and smelt ore and other furnace materials.
Working Characteristics
SAF (submerged arc process) is the main equipment for producing ferroalloy, which is used for reduction smelting of ore and other furnace materials.
Carbon or magnesia refractory materials are used as the furnace lining, self-improving electrodes are used, and the electrodes are inserted into the charge for submerged arc operation.
The energy and current of the arc are used to generate heat through the resistance of the charge to smelt the charge (metal), and the charge is fed successively and discharged intermittently. Iron slag, continuous operation. Therefore, it is also called submerged arc furnace.
Submerged arc furnaces usually have open type, closed type and semi-closed type, and the furnace body has various forms such as fixed type and rotary type. In addition, SAF is also called electric arc resistance furnace.
The equipment composition includes:
Power supply system,
Electrode system,
Furnace
Fume hood (or furnace cover),
Feeding system
Water cooling system, etc.
The submerged arc furnace supplied by Hani is mainly used for the production of ferroalloys.
Classification
Classification of submerged arc furnace Process
Submerged arc reduction furnaces are usually classified according to the structural characteristics of the equipment.
A. Divided according to the form of the furnace mouth
High hood open type, short hood open type (an improved type in which the short net is introduced from the upper part of the hood after the high hood is lowered), semi-closed type and closed type.
The first two forms were used in the early days and are gradually being eliminated; semi-closed and closed are widely used now.
B. Divided according to the shape of the furnace body
Circular (fixed and rotary), rectangular and triangular (the corners are arc-shaped). The circular furnace body is widely used now.
C. Divided according to the number of electrodes
Single-phase single-electrode, single-phase double-electrode, three-phase three-electrode and three-phase six-electrode electric furnaces. What is commonly used now is a three-phase three-electrode electric furnace in which the electrodes are arranged in an equilateral triangle.
Different types of SAF have different submerged arc process.
