Induction Furnace Of Steel - Steelmaking
Induction furnace of steel is a steelmaking method that uses induction electrothermal effect to heat and melt metal.
It's especially suitable for smelting a small amount of high-quality steel and alloy with high-quality raw materials (high-quality scrap steel, ferroalloy, etc.). The vacuum induction furnace equipped with a vacuum system is an important equipment for smelting high-quality alloys.
Structure
Induction furnace of steel construction
There are two types of induction furnaces: melting channel type and crucible type, and their working principle is similar to that of transformers.
The primary winding (induction coil) of the melting channel induction furnace is equipped with an iron core to reduce magnetic flux leakage and improve the power factor, and the secondary winding is a melting channel filled with molten metal. When alternating current passes through the induction coil, an induced electromotive force is generated in the liquid metal in the melting channel, which generates Joule heat and heats the charge. Therefore, the melting channel is always filled with molten metal, and the furnace cannot be stopped arbitrarily, and it is not suitable to change the type of smelted metal frequently. At the same time, the energy in the melting channel is converted and then transmitted to the molten pool. The thermal load of the melting channel is very high, so although the power factor and electrical efficiency of this induction furnace are high, it is not suitable for melting alloy steel and alloys.
The crucible-type induction furnace is to place the crucible in the induction coil. When the alternating current passes through the induction coil, an induced electromotive force is generated in the furnace charge in the crucible, and then Joule heat is generated to melt the charge. The power factor and thermal efficiency of the crucible induction furnace are low, but it can smelt high-melting point metals, and it is easy to change the type of smelting. It is suitable for discontinuous operations. It plays an important role in smelting a small amount of high-quality steel and alloys.
Furnace body

The main components of the induction furnace include the furnace rack, water-cooled induction coil, yoke, crucible, furnace cover and shaft tilting mechanism that the furnace body surrounds the tap nozzle.
Task
The main raw materials for smelting are steel scrap and some pig iron.
The scrap steel purchased from outside has a lot of rust, mud, sand and other dirt, and the content of sulfur and phosphorus in the steel is also high. The task of steelmaking is to smelt the above-mentioned raw materials into high-quality molten steel with low gas and inclusion content, qualified composition and temperature. Specifically, the basic tasks of steelmaking are:
(1) Melting solid charge (pig iron, scrap steel, etc.);
(2) Make silicon, manganese, carbon and other elements in molten steel reach the specification composition;
(3) Remove harmful elements sulfur and phosphorus, and reduce their content below the specified limit;
(4) Remove gas and non-metallic inclusions in molten steel to make molten steel pure;
(5) Adding alloying elements (smelting alloy steel) to make it meet the requirements;
(6) Superheat the molten steel to a certain temperature to ensure the need for pouring;
(7) In order to increase production and reduce costs, steelmaking must be done quickly;
(8) Pouring into a good casting.
