Steel Billet Production Process - CCM

Slab Continuous Casting Machine

Steel billet production process has three types. Hani Metallugy takes you to find out more.

A billet is a steel product, which is the product of molten steel processed in multiple steps.

There are many places where billets are used, mainly in the industry, for the production of various mechanical components, and the production of wire rods.

In short, it's a very common raw material.

The following will introduce the classification, use, and process of steel billets.

A billet is a product obtained by casting molten steel made in a steelmaking furnace.

Steel billets can be mainly divided into two types from the manufacturing process:

die casting billets & continuous casting billets

At present, the die casting process has been basically eliminated.

Classification of Steel Billet

There are two main types in terms of appearance:

Slab:

The ratio of section width and height is larger.

Mainly used for rolling sheets.

Billet:

Section width and height are equal or not very different.

Mainly used for rolling section steel and wire rod.

Use of billets

Billets are originally steel.

After processing, it can be used as mechanical parts, forgings, processing various steels, section steel Q345B channel steel, wire rods, etc.

Steel Billet Production Process

First

Through the continuous casting equipment of the steelmaking system, the molten steel is directly cast into the billet;

Second

The semi-finished steel products processed by the rolling equipment of the steel rolling system for the steel ingots or continuous casting billets produced by the steelmaking system;

Third

The semi-finished product processed by the forging equipment for the ingot produced by the steelmaking system.

Continuous Casting Production Process:

The molten steel that has been processed upstream is transported to the turntable in ladle;

Divide into several strands through the molten steel distributor and inject them into specific shapes of molds;

Begin to cool and solidify and form, and generate a cast embryo with a solidified shell on the outside and molten steel on the inside;

Then the cast embryo is drawn into the arc-shaped sprue, and continues to solidify to complete solidification after secondary cooling.

After straightening, it is cut into pieces according to the length of the order. The square shape is the large billet, and the plate shape is the flat billet.

This semi-finished product can be sent to the rolling mill for rolling after the surface treatment of the steel billet as needed.

No matter what kind of billet production process,

a good factory will provide professional solutions and services according to the requirements of the steel factory and finished products.
