Continuous Cater - Steel Making Machine

Continuous Casting Machine

Continuous caster, also known as strand casting, is a mechanical device that solidifies molten metal into "semi-finished" billets, blooms, billets, or slabs for subsequent rolling in a finishing mill.

Before continuous casting was introduced in the 1950s, steel was poured into stationary molds to form ingots.

Since then "Continuous Casting" has been developed step by step to improve yield, quality, productivity and cost efficiency.

It allows for the production of better quality metal profiles at a lower cost due to the inherently lower cost of continuous standardized production of the product, as well as the enhanced control of the process provided by automation.

This process is most commonly used for cast steel. Usually also suitable for continuous casting of aluminum and copper.

At present, continuous caster have been widely used in steel mills.

There are many forms and different uses. There are also different types:

(1) According to the shape of the continuous casting machine:

Vertical continuous casting machine,

Vertical bending continuous casting machine,

Arc continuous casting machine,

Bow (oval) continuous casting machine,

Horizontal caster,

Wheel caster, etc.

(2) Classification according to the section of the casting billet:

Billet Caster:

The section less than or equal to 150 × 150mm is called a billet, and a section greater than 150 × 150mm is called a bloom.

In billet continuous casting, 120 × 120mm is used as a dividing line. Above this value, immersion nozzle and mold slag are used for pouring, and below this value, open pouring or gas protection pouring is used.

If the ratio of the long side to the wide side of the rectangular section is less than 3, it is also called a billet continuous casting machine.

Slab Caster:

The slab section is rectangular. Its width to thickness ratio is generally above 3.

Round Billet Caster:

The section of the billet is circular, with a diameter of Φ60~Φ400mm.

Special-shaped Billet Continuous Casting Machine:

Pouring special-shaped sections such as I-beams.

Continuous Casting Machines For Both Square & Slab:

On one casting machine, both slabs and billets can be poured.

(3) Classification By Pulling Speed:

High speed continuous casting machine

Low speed continuous caster

The main difference between them is that the billet is straightened with liquid core at high drawing speed, and the billet is fully solidified and straightened at low drawing speed.

(4) Classification According to the Hydrostatic Head of Molten Steel:

The higher static pressure is called high head type continuous casting machine such as vertical type and vertical bending type continuous casting machine.

The lower static pressure is called a low-head CCM such as arc, elliptical and horizontal continuous casting machines.

Different steel mills and materials require matching corresponding contuinuous caster. Vertical, vertical bending, horizontal, bloom, billet casters are more popular among customers.
