Structural Characteristics of Submerged Arc Furnace

Submerged arc furnace is an important smelting furnace for reducing and smelting ore, carbon-containing reducing agent, solvent, etc., and producing industrial raw materials and calcium carbide and other chemical raw materials in metallurgical industry.

Mainly used for the production of ferromanganese, ferrochromium, silicon-manganese alloy, ferronickel and other ferrous metal alloys. It is an industrial electric furnace with huge power consumption.


Components: furnace shell, furnace cover, furnace lining, short net, water cooling system, smoke exhaust system, dust removal system, electrode shell, electrode pressing and lifting system, loading and unloading system, controller, burn-through device, hydraulic system, mine It consists of furnace transformers and various electrical equipment.


SAF uses carbon or magnesia refractory material for furnace lining. The electrode is inserted into the material in the furnace for submerged arc operation, and the arc energy and current are used to pass through the material to generate energy due to the resistance of the material to melt the metal. It is an industrial furnace with continuous operation, continuous feeding and intermittent discharge of metal or slag.

70% of the system reactance of the submerged arc furnace is generated by the short-circuit system, and the maximum current can reach tens of thousands of amperes.

Therefore, it is difficult for the natural power factor of the submerged arc furnace to reach more than 0.85, which will lead to a series of reasons. The power imbalance between the three phases increases, and the highest unbalance can reach more than 20%, which leads to low smelting efficiency and increased electricity costs.

Therefore, in order to improve the smelting efficiency and reduce the energy consumption, it is necessary to improve the power factor of the short grid and reduce the imbalance of the grid. so as to achieve the following effects:

(1) Reduce power consumption by 5~20%;

(2) Increase production by more than 5%~10%
