Ladle furnace is an out-of-furnace refining technology using arc heating under vacuum conditions. It mainly refines the molten steel melted in the primary furnace (electric arc furnace, open hearth, converter), and can adjust the temperature of the molten steel, process buffering, and meet the important metallurgical equipment of continuous casting and continuous rolling. Ladle furnace is one of the main equipment for refining outside the furnace.

The Main Functions of The Ladle Furnace:

1. The function of heating the molten steel and keeping it warm. The molten steel obtains new thermal energy through arc heating, which can not only add alloys and adjust components during ladle refining, but also add slag, which is convenient for deep desulfurization and deoxidation of molten steel. In addition, the molten steel opening temperature required by continuous casting is guaranteed, which is beneficial to the improvement of the quality of the dry casting billet.

2. Argon stirring function. Argon gas is blown into the molten steel through the breathable brick installed at the bottom of the ladle, and the molten steel obtains a certain stirring function.

3. Vacuum degassing function. After the ladle is hoisted into the vacuum tank, the steam jet pump is used for vacuum degassing, and the molten steel is stirred by blowing argon at the bottom of the ladle, which can remove the hydrogen content and nitrogen content in the molten steel, and further reduce the oxygen content and sulfur content. Finally, a higher purity molten steel and a material with superior performance are obtained. For the whole enterprise, the application of ladle furnace can at least increase the following benefits: speed up the production rhythm and improve the overall metallurgical production efficiency. Equipment

Metallurgical Effect

(1) Deep decarburization. For general steel grades, oxygen decarburization under normal pressure can be carried out in the LF furnace. For low carbon and ultra low carbon stainless steel and industrial pure iron, vacuum oxygen blowing decarburization is carried out in LF furnace. For ferritic stainless steel, the carbon can be reduced to 0.008%, and the recovery rate of chromium is above 97%; for austenitic stainless steel, the carbon can be reduced to 0.004%, and the recovery rate of chromium is 98%. Above; for industrial pure iron, the carbon can be reduced to 0.003%.

(2) Degassing and deoxidizing. The argon blowing and stirring under vacuum used in the LF furnace can make the H, N and O contents of the bearing steel reach the levels of 2.68×10-6, 38×10-6 and 10×10-6 respectively; when refining 06CrMoV7 steel, H and O reach below 2.5×10-6 and 15×10-6 respectively; when refining CK45 steel, N and O drop to below 50×10-6 and 14×10-6 respectively, the effect is very significant.

(3) Fine-tuning of composition and temperature. In the LF furnace, the content of C, Mn, Si, S, Cr, Al, Ti, N and other elements in the molten steel can be accurately controlled and fine-tuned, and the yield is also higher when easily oxidizable elements are added. The control range (%) of each element is as follows: C Mn Si S Cr Al Ti N ±0.01 ±0.02 ±0.02 ±0.004 ±0.01 ±0.02 ±0.025 ±0.005 The temperature error of molten steel can be controlled within ±2.5°C, so that the surface quality of the ingot can be controlled within ±2.5°C. And the surface quality of continuous casting billet is effectively guaranteed, and very favorable conditions are created for full continuous casting and multi-furnace continuous casting.
